June 30 (reporter: Lai hailong) - on the "2D barcode" standard promotion conference, reporter got news:

Ministry of Information Industry has formally approved to issue CM code and GM code as electronic standard for 2D barcode making, which supply a gap for chinese 2D barcode standard with independent intellectual property.

2D barcode is a coding technique based on optical identification and read of images with large memory, high quality, data collecting and convenient read advantages. This technique concerns optical, mechanical, electronical, painting, information safety and identification fields. It is one of the most widely used information techniques.

Till now, over a hundred million cards with 2D barcode mark have existed in the worldwide area. American Navy, leader of European material circulation-YNT and 3M are all applying 2D barcode logistics and material management system. Western companies even promoted 2D barcode hospital application system to automatically withdraw medicines according to prescription.

Recent years, national 2D barcode standard is originated from foreign technics but not independent intellectual property. Strict patent caused high price of reading equipment for recognizing 2D barcode in our country and a certain danger in information safety.

2D barcode technique has become trade standard, which will surely proceed its wide and deeply application in all fields and bring good economic and social efficiency.

"2D barcode" standard promotion conference was commisioned by Ministry of Information Industry and hosted by Hubei Information Industry Bureau in Beijing. Information Centre of office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Information Centre of office of the State Council attended this promotion conference today.
