China's first independent innovation 2D bar code standard comes to the world

Close matrix codes (short for CM codes), grid matrix codes (short for GM code) the 2D bar code system electronics industry standards approved by the Ministry of Information Industry on May 25, 2006 have filled up the gap of China independent intellectual property rights 2D bar code standards.
2D bar code is a unique optical image-based coding technology, with large memory capacity, high advantage of price ratio, convenient data collection and reading and relevant merits. The technology involves in light, machines, electricity and printing, information security, marking and other technology, which is currently one of the most widely used information technology globally.
2D bar codes have great prosperity for application in electronic government administration, e-commerce information industry, especially in information collection, and promotion of modern logistics and industry chain management and the development of the internet revolutionary process which is an integral part for establishing high-quality and efficient information systems. As 2D bar codes are applied in logistics management, personnel management, asset management and military equipment management, so it is of great significance to own the 2D bar code standard with independent intellectual property rights to accelerate our national economy and social services information.
Over the years, the domestic 2D bar code standards are derived from foreign technology; do not have China's own intellectual property rights, such as PDF417 codes of the United States and QR code of Japan, which approved as China??s standards by national standards committee. These foreign 2D bar codes are without special design optimal for Chinese character, inefficient for the Chinese character coding. The core technologies of related equipment are available only in the hands of foreign firms, domestic sales are mostly agents of foreign manufacturers or assembled products. Not only the cost of production is high, the stringent patent protection also leads to high expenses of the domestic 2D bar code reading equipment, existing certain information security risk.
Many people mistakenly believe that the international standard is totally free; the use of international standards is safe and reliable. In fact, transnational corporations just make use of the advantage of standards to conduct industry control over our country. International standards do not mean the standard drafters?? waiver of intellectual property rights. Complex patent licensing issues are often hidden behind the international standards. At present, the users of 2D bar code international standards Data Matrix are facing with patent infringement accusation, the potential risk brought by the application of external codes have become real threat.
At present, developing intellectual property technology standard on our own feet becomes an important policy of our country. The fifth session of the 16th Communist Party proposed to go on the road of innovation independently and carry out science and technology developing concept, which is the guideline document with directory significance for the development of our science.
With great efforts of our trade for many years and support and guide from our government??s management section, we began to break away from monopolization of the USA and Japan in the field of 2D bar code technology. 2D bar code designed and manufactured by us Chinese has been authenticated and approved as our state??s standard by national government section and now been applied, of which Close matrix codes (short for CM codes), grid matrix codes (short for GM code) are representative technologies.
In the process of setting down the 2D bar code industry standard, we paid more emphasis on protecting intellectual property of independent innovation. Delightedly, we have got some ten patents and copyrights on computer software at home and abroad, thus powerfully safeguarding authority and relative equity of out industry standard legally.
It is just a beginning to promote 2D bar code in our country. As the industry standard, 2D bar code technology will provide more and better choices for users. It will no doubt proceed 2D bar code technology??s wide and deep going application in all fields and bring out better economic and social efficiency.
